I recently went through a phase where I didn’t like myself, my career, my physical health, my relationships and my character; I noticed I was quick to reactions, I let everything affect my emotional and mental health all while blaming my past and childhood upbringing instead of focusing on my personal development.

That was the when I decided that i had enough; This was not what I wanted my twenties to look like and no one other than me could change it. So ‘How do I grow as a person?’

In this blog, I will give you 10 tips on how to achieve personal development and avoid loosing and resenting yourself for the rest of your life.

What is personal development and why is it important?

Self-development is a process of learning new things, building new skills and knowing oneself. These skills help us increase our chances in succeeding in life, achieving our goals and manifesting our dreams. Involves looking inward and finding ways to love and better yourself. Those who invest in themselves become more focused and efficient

It is so important that we start our journey with personal development because it contains vital steps to grow our mindset, helps us think like entrepreneurs increases self awareness, skill enhancement.

10 TIPS to grow as a person

Remember, self-development is a journey, a continuous process of growth and learning that leads to a more fulfilling and successful life!

1.Find what gives you meaning and purpose

Identify your personal values and what matters to make the best choices for yourself.

Knowing your values will help you choose a career, a degree or even your new apartment. It will help set boundaries in relationships as well as know your limits. You can do this by learning new skills, new dance or even a new language.

2. Journal

Write down your emotions and don’t forget to be grateful everyday.

Writing (or recording) is a positive psychology method that can help you find ways to be thankful for life and past experiences. It will help see the little but not so little improvements and blessings in your life.

3.Meditate

Improve your mental health through meditation and silence.

A 5-10 minute meditation session, not only helps you stay focused but help recollect your thoughts when they begin to wander. This also helps control your emotional reactions when needed.

4.Healthy Lifestyle

Balanced Diet + Regular Exercise = Improved being.

The feel-good endorphins released with a healthy lifestyle are so good for a self-development journey! The thrill that comes with new physical activities as well as developing a healthy relationship with food does wonders for our body,soul and mind.

5.Sleep

As simple as it sounds, being deprived of sleep has been proved to affect a person’s lifestyle.

It is recommended to sleep at least 7 hours each day for a full recovery. Not only does it rejuvenate you for the next day but it will help you stay focused on your goals during the day and in the future.

6.Listen and Read

Actually Listen to people instead of listening to reply. Being more empathetic will help view situations in a different way as well as work on your relationships.

7.Set meaningful goals

Vague goals are ineffective. Specific goals on the other hand help plan ahead of time, keep you engaged on your objectives.

A meaningful goal affects your thinking by strategizing, planning and learning. Make your goals SMART: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely.

8.Give back

To actually grow, a person needs to learn to work for themselves but also for others. Giving back in any comunity of your choice aligns with your beliefs.

Donating time or money, helping people in need or making an eco-friendly choice etc they all develop a sense of meaning during your journey to self growth.

9.Laugh

Laughter is the best medicine. Sometimes it is all we need to move on happily in our lives.

A little advice would be stop fretting about your inadequacies, instead laugh at your mistakes. This is just another step to increase your confidence and know your weaknesses and self-worth.

10.Forgive

Las but definitely NOT the least Forgive.

Forgive others but most importantly forgive YOURSELF. Learn to remember your humanity when judging yourself and/or others.
